How to Choose the Right Kids' Bike by Age

How to Choose the Right Kids' Bike by Age

How to Choose the Right Kids' Bike by Age? Here is a simple, practical guide from the GBruno Store family.

Measure first, not by age alone

Wheel size matters more than the number of candles on the cake. Measure your child's inseam (floor to crotch, shoes on). As a rule of thumb: 12-inch wheels fit about 2–4 years (14–17 inch inseam), 14–16 inch fit 4–6 years, 18-inch fit 5–8 years and 20-inch fit 7–10 years.

Training wheels or balance first?

Balance bikes and removable training wheels both work. If your child is nervous, start with training wheels and raise them a little each week so they learn to lean and balance.

Safety checklist

Feet should touch the ground flat when seated. Check that brakes are easy for small hands, add a helmet that sits two fingers above the eyebrows, and tighten bolts before every ride.

Room to grow

Pick a bike with an adjustable seat and handlebar so it lasts a season or two longer.
